Reston Pedestrian Bridge
Location: 12051 Bluemont Way, Reston VA
The new pedestrian bridge from the Reston Town Center Transit Station across Washington and Old Dominion Trail to Progress Street near the new Reston Gateway project required the 2-section, 134-ft long x 10-ft wide pedestrian bridge to be installed under the Dominion Powers’ high voltage transmission lines.
To accomplish this lift and maintain the proper OSHA minimum approach distance, the new pedestrian bridge needed to be hoisted off-center. To accomplish an off- center lift, the assembled bridge structure needed to be counter-balanced. Lift Planning Services, LLC provided a complete engineering review of the pedestrian bridge structure and designed the rigging and counter-balancing load to accomplish the off-center hoisting of the assembled bridge while maintain the proper OSHA minimum approach distance from the high voltage transmission lines.
